5 Years

Mirena IUD

Hormonal · 99.8% effective

The Mirena is a small, T-shaped device inserted into the uterus that releases a low dose of progestogen. It's one of the most popular long-acting contraceptive choices in Australia and is inserted on-site by our experienced GPs.

  • Significantly reduces or stops periods
  • Helps with heavy menstrual bleeding & endometriosis pain
  • Reversible — fertility returns quickly after removal
  • Insertion takes 10–15 minutes

Kyleena IUD

Hormonal (lower dose) · 99.7%

A smaller, lower-hormone alternative to Mirena. Kyleena is ideal for younger women, those who haven't been pregnant, or anyone seeking a smaller frame and a lighter hormonal profile.

  • Smaller than Mirena — gentler insertion
  • Lighter hormonal load
  • Periods often become lighter (rarely stop fully)
  • Excellent for first-time IUD users

Comprehensive Care

Every aspect of women's health, under one roof

Cervical Screening Tests (CST)

Cervical screening every 5 years is one of the most powerful preventive health steps any woman can take. Our female GPs perform standard cervical screening tests as well as offer the new self-collection option for eligible women aged 25–74. Bulk-billed appointments with same-week results.

Antenatal & Postnatal Shared Care

Dr Sumudu Udapitiya holds a Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (DRANZCOG) and is accredited for GP obstetric shared care with Monash Health and Peninsula Health. This means you can have most of your pregnancy care with a familiar local GP, while still seeing your hospital team for key milestones.

  • Pre-pregnancy planning and folate advice
  • Confirmation of pregnancy & first antenatal visit
  • Antenatal blood tests, BP & growth monitoring
  • Pregnancy ultrasound referrals
  • Postnatal review & baby's 6-week check

Menopause & Hormone Management

Menopause is a natural transition — but it can be uncomfortable. Our female GPs are experienced in helping women navigate perimenopause and menopause with personalised treatment plans, including:

  • Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) options
  • Non-hormonal alternatives
  • Bone density & osteoporosis screening
  • Cardiovascular risk assessment
  • Mental health and sleep support

Breast Health & Examinations

Routine breast examinations, breast lump assessment, BreastScreen referrals for free mammography (women 40+), and family-history risk assessment.

Sexual & Reproductive Health

Confidential sexual health consultations through our SHIP-accredited Sexual Health Clinic — including STI testing, treatment, contraception advice, and emergency contraception. Partnered with Melbourne Sexual Health Centre.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

Diagnosis, hormonal blood testing, ultrasound referrals, lifestyle support, fertility planning and connections to dietitians and gynaecologists where appropriate.

Endometriosis

Initial assessment, pain management, referral to gynaecology, and ongoing support through the diagnostic and treatment journey.

Fertility & Pre-Pregnancy Planning

Pre-conception health checks, folate & vaccination review, ovulation tracking advice, fertility blood panels, and referrals to fertility specialists if needed.

Common Questions

Women's health FAQs

Are women's health consultations bulk billed?

Yes. Standard women's health consultations, cervical screening, antenatal visits, IUD and Implanon insertions are all bulk-billed for Medicare card holders. The device itself (Mirena, Kyleena, Implanon) is usually subsidised under the PBS. Some private fees may apply for specific dressings or non-Medicare services.

How long does an IUD or Implanon insertion take?

Implanon insertion typically takes 5–10 minutes including local anaesthetic. IUD insertion takes 15–30 minutes and is performed in our on-site procedure room. We always book a longer appointment for these procedures.

Can I do my cervical screening at home (self-collection)?

Yes. Eligible women aged 25–74 can now choose self-collection for their cervical screening test. Your GP will explain how, and provide the kit. Self-collection has been shown to be just as accurate as a clinician-collected sample.

Do I need a referral to see a female GP?

No referral needed. Simply book online via HotDoc and select a female doctor — Dr Sumudu, Dr Zunaira or Dr Sree. New patients are welcome.

Can I get antenatal shared care here?

Yes. Dr Sumudu Udapitiya is accredited to provide GP obstetric shared care with both Monash Health and Peninsula Health, meaning you can have most of your antenatal visits at our clinic.

What if I'd like to discuss menopause or HRT?

Book a longer consultation with one of our female GPs. We'll review your symptoms, take blood tests as needed, discuss HRT and non-hormonal options, and create a personalised plan.
