Frequently Asked

Travel Medicine — your questions answered

How far in advance should I book?

Ideally 6–8 weeks before departure. Many vaccines need 2 doses spaced weeks apart, and immunity takes time to develop.

How much does it cost?

The consultation is bulk-billed. Travel vaccines and malaria tablets are not on the NIP, so they have a private cost — varies by vaccine. See the table above.

Do you do yellow fever vaccinations?

We don't administer the yellow fever vaccine on-site. We will, however, refer you to an accredited yellow fever vaccination centre and include it as part of your pre-departure plan.

What about COVID-19 requirements for travel?

We can advise on the latest COVID-19 entry requirements for your destination and ensure you have current boosters if needed.

Can children get travel vaccines?

Yes — most travel vaccines are licensed from age 1+. Some have age restrictions. We assess based on age and destination.

Do you provide malaria prevention?

Yes — we prescribe doxycycline, atovaquone-proguanil (Malarone) or mefloquine depending on your destination, health and budget.
